No Autos? REALLY? Then how do we move around?”

Yes! You read that right. So how does one move around in Australia? There’s no need to panic. Just like India, Australia has a well-connected public transportation system. It is even economical to drive around in your own vehicles or cabs depending on the distance to be covered. Just like India there are flights, buses, metros and so many more options.

They often say you know a city or a country truly only once you have tried out their different ways of commuting. It can often be overwhelming trying to find out the different ways you can move from one place to the other. Don’t worry! We have your back.

Here are 5 ways you can commute through Australia.

1.Flights
Australia is the sixth largest country in the world! Covering large distances can be overwhelming and take too much time. If you’re traveling such distances by road, the journey can be tiring.  In such cases, traveling by flight is the best option.  Especially if you’re short on time. Australians often prefer to travel by flights if they want to relax and save on time. If you’re on a budget, then make sure you book your flights in advance.

Australia has many domestic airlines for you to try out including Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Rex. The competition between these airlines makes sure you have great deals to choose from. Just what we desis love! The airlines cater to almost all major cities throughout the country.

2.Cars

If you’re looking to travel short distances then traveling by car is a great option. Traveling by road gives you a beautiful insight into Australia’s beautiful terrain. It brings you closer to the experience and you can even stop anywhere you wish to. A great idea if you’re traveling with a company who love exploring and taking a lot of pictures.

If you already own a car in Australia, then no doubt traveling distances by car is the best. You can take your desi friends or family around. This is great for your budget because all you guys have to pay for is fuel. Australia also has a great set of rest stops and eateries by the road.

You can even rent your vehicle in Australia. You will find a good set of rental companies near airports, in the central cities and near tourist locations. You can even hire a caravan or camper if you’re moving with big groups. Campervans can prove to be economical since they cover the cost for your accommodation too. All you need to do is pay for camping at sights.  Before renting any vehicle make sure you read the contract well. You will also most likely have to put up a deposit for the vehicle which you will get back if the vehicle is returned in the original condition. However, beware of driving hazards unique to Australia, such as its wildlife on the roads, dirt roads, and more.

Another budget option would be to move around by car share. Join people on their trip!

3. Ferry
Being surrounded by water on all sides and home to make lakes and rivers, traveling by ferry is an option you come across in Australia. Ferries connect major cities throughout the country. They connect suburbs around Sydney harbor, in Perth due to the Swan river and even along the Brisbane river.

This option is not found in India and is definitely an experience you must try out. Traveling my ferries is budget friendly too! You can have a perfect scenic route on your way to exploring the city or even just on your way to work! We Indians definitely love a new experience!

4. Bus
If you’re looking to travel short or long distances on a low budget then buses are the best options to opt for.

Buses in Australia are different from those in India. While most are air conditioned just like in India, they also offer toilets and wi-fi. Just what we need while traveling. This makes the journey comfortable, relaxing and the long hours seem to pass by faster.

Buses also offer hop-on and off charges which make it cheaper and more flexible to travel by buses. They also offer discounts for citizens, students and children.

If you’re looking to travel cheap, you can even opt for a bus tour. In such cases you receive accommodation, sightseeing, meals and company throughout your trip. You don’t miss any major attractions through the cities and often don’t spend a penny extra than what you initially paid.

5. Trains

We Indians love traveling by trains and to our luck, Australia has a great railway system. We can travel both cheaply and comfortably. There are public trains and metros along that are affordable and cheap. There are also luxurious trains which are a must try throughout your life. Trains are definitely more comfortable than buses and offer meals and other services of comfort at your doorstep.

There are railway journeys such as The Ghan and Indian Pacific, which sweep across the continent.  They are truly the epitome of luxury and comfort, making your journey truly memorable. Popular outfits running coach tours are AAT Kings, Adventure Tours Australia, Autopia Tours, Untamed Escapes, and Oz Experience.

Throughout the city, there are buses, metros, cabs and many other public transports for you to try out. They even have our favorite app, Uber, to book rides whenever we want. Hence, there is no need to panic because just like India, Australia has a well planned transportation system.
